Mexican experts ask: is vaccine research in the early, middle or late stages?
Zhang Wenhong said that there are 180 vaccines in research all over the world, two vaccines in the United States have entered phase III clinical research, and two vaccines in China have entered phase II clinical research.
According to the current schedule of phase III clinical research and the schedule of phase II clinical research in China, the earliest vaccine results in the world should be published around the end of this year or the beginning of next year. If all the data are ideal and can be applied for the approval of FDA or CFDA in China, it should be between March and June next year.
“I don’t think it’s appropriate to expect too much of a vaccine now.” Zhang Wenhong also said that the effectiveness of these vaccines is not yet predicted because the current two phase of clinical research is all about antibody levels, and all the results are in the three phase clinical study in areas with relatively high incidence rate.
In the next year to two years, we may have more effective drugs and vaccines. At present, prevention and control as well as treatment of the disease should be given priority.
